The application process for those wishing to cultivate or process hemp in Alabama opened on October 13, 2020, and applications will be accepted until November 30, 2020.

The Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries has made the application process easier by making it available online, according to WTVY.com. The application can be accessed on the agency’s website. Applications must be submitted annually to maintain active status.

The commissioner of Agriculture and Industries Rick Pate said, “As the hemp industry continues to grow in Alabama, critical research data is being collected and evaluated. This is the department’s third year to administer the hemp program. It has always been our goal to manage the program in a fair and timely manner to benefit Alabama farmers and hemp producers and develop industrial hemp as an alternative crop.”

Updates regarding the application process and Alabama hemp program can be found on the Agriculture and Industries website at www.agi.alabama.gov/hempapp.
